A Review of Benefit’s They’re Real Mascara

I’ve heard about Benefit products and recently gave the They’re Real Mascara a try. When I don’t feel like using eyeliner for eye definition, my next go-to product is a good mascara. Before I bought this product, I’ve seen some mixed reviews about it, so I decided to give it a try myself!

Pros of Benefit They’re Real Mascara

The consistency of the product is quite runny and smooth, which I like but I know many people prefer their mascara to be a bit dryer. It has a nice rubber brush which I think separates the lashes well. The applicator is easy to hold and distributes the product evenly too. The mascara itself is nice and dark, which I like, and gives nice luscious coverage to my lashes. It promises to give a kind of false lash effect which worked in my case.

I compared how it looked with just one coat, and then two coats and both are pleasing to me. I didn’t see much clumping which tends to happen when using other products. One coat provided a nice and subtle definition while two coats gave my lashes a more dramatic look. Overall, it’s easy to apply and would recommend it even for beginners.

Cons of Benefit They’re Real Mascara

One of the things I noticed was that it didn’t create a whole lot of volume with just one coat since I have not so long lashes. For some, this may be a good thing, while for others, this may be disappointing. The only thing I really don’t like about it is that it smudges easily. I expected it wouldn’t since it wasn’t too clumpy when I applied it, but after a few hours, it ended up smudging my bottom lids and lower lash line as well. This can be quite problematic if you have concealer on as it may darken your under eye areas.

In the end, I would suggest to use this if you don’t intend on having it on too long, or if you do, have just a single coat instead. It’s a pretty good product if you can deal with the smudginess!
